Copernicus programme for satellite monitoring of environment – workshop in Poland

CBK PAN together with IGiK has organised an online workshop for Polish end-users, with almost 300 participants.

The seminar entitled "Satellite Environmental Monitoring - the Potential of the Copernicus Program," took place on March 21, 2024. The event was organized by the Space Research Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences (CBK PAN) and the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography (IGiK).

The aim of the seminar was to introduce attendees to the Copernicus Earth observation program and explore its applications in environmental monitoring. The seminar, conducted in Polish and held online, was accessible to all who registered in advance. It featured a combination of theoretical discussions and practical demonstrations.

Presentations covered various aspects, including the services and open data repository of Copernicus, as well as insights into satellite data from the program's latest missions. Expert from Polish Academy of Sciences presented the Earth Observation Ecosystem in Poland and the National Satellite Information System.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the latest trends in satellite data processing and explore the practical applications of Copernicus data in estimating water scarcity conditions and understanding of land cover.

Following a break, practical workshops were conducted, guiding participants on accessing the latest satellite images and utilizing open-source software for mapping plant development conditions based on Copernicus satellite products.

All the materials and presentations are available (in Polish) on the website.
