Copernicus uptake for the maritime sector - Awareness and Matchmaking Event

The purpose of this initiative is to promote engagement with stakeholders from these 3 subsectors, including public authorities responsible for sector management - from local to regional authorities, and companies whose primary activities relate to any of the following sectors.

Ports and harbors face various challenges regarding management and sustainability (e.g., changes in bathymetry, infrastructure maintenance, water quality, sea condition) that can be supported by satellite data.

Aquaculture is currently one of the fastest-growing food sectors globally, due to continuous increases in demand and quality of seafood and limited possibilities for increasing catches from wild fisheries. However, balance is required to remain both profitable and environmentally sustainable. Satellite data can be key in identifying suitable areas for aquaculture, as well as assessing environmental impacts.

Fishing is also a highly relevant marine sector where there is still potential to increase the use of Copernicus on the fishing operations side (e.g., identifying higher productivity areas, sea state maps for safer operations), as well as supporting local and national authorities in detecting illegal activities.
