In 2023, an online portal, developed by Earth Observation Department of CBK PAN, presenting snow cover extent was refreshed and extended. Service called “Snow in Europe” presents a daily updated snow cover map of Europe with additional quantitative information in the forms of graphs. In 2023, new countries have been added to the list of analyzed areas (e.g. Portugal, Spain, Germany, Belgium, United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Croatia, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Kosovo).

Moreover, historical data about snow extent is available for easy comparison with the current winter season. The service is operating automatically, online and is open for the general public.

Information about snow (and ice) cover extent, presented in the portal is obtained from various sensors, including Sentinel-1 from Copernicus programme.
