FPCUP in Brittany: setup of added-value products and services.

The "Regional Copernicus" approach in Brittany aimed at leading to a better uptake of Copernicus data, products and of associated added-value services.

The "Regional Copernicus" application provide to local and regional authorities (LRAs) offers users a free, online, simple and unique access point to a broad panel of Copernicus/EO data (https://copernicus-regional.irispace.fr). It is based on an open source client, mviewer, already used by many regional stakeholders and promoted by GéoBretagne.

In 2023, new datasets and new services has been added on the Copernicus Régional platform, allowing enduser to combine Copernicus products focused on Copernicus Land Monitoring Services layers, extracted within the local administrative divisions (municipalities, intercommunalities and departments).

Another specific service has been developed, providing Sentinel-2 calendar beyond the Copernicus Régional application, to make it compliant with all local applications based on Mviewer, including the intuitive map application development generator, Mviewer Studio, allowing to develop an application without specific coding.

Acculturation and promotion activities has been carried out, including:

  • Workshops organized for Local and Regional Authorities and students at regional level;
  • Lobbying actions at regional and national level fostering user uptake and fostering Space data integration in SDI ecosystem.

The main achievements are:

  • 5 new Copernicus products available on the SDI regional platform and in the Copernicus Régional application representing 39 datasets
  • A new Copernicus service on the regional platform allowing to display easily these datasets (cf. screenshots)
  • Training sessions (cf. pictures) :
    • 1 training course toward Higher education students (Engineering School IMT Atlantique) in 2023 : 30 students involved
    • 1 training session in December 2023 on the use of the application: 20 participants
    • 1 training session in December 2023 on the use of the Sentinel Hub Plugin in QGIS, and the Mwiever based calendar tool: 20 participants
