The fastest growing landscape areas are urban regions in Europe. Therefore, it is important to have accurate and relevant information about the status and changes in Land Use/Land Cover in these dynamically developing areas.

An important Land Use/Land Cover database oriented in the urban areas has been produced within the Copernicus programme. It is called the Urban Atlas (UA). This study has confirmed a high relevance of this Copernicus data for a monitoring the urban areas.
