Copernicus Promotion to Public and Scientific Events in Cyprus I

Raise awareness and promote the use of COPERNICUS with adequate diffusion and promotion materials and valorise current research projects and prototypes using Sentinel and Contributing Missions data.

CUT takes part in an array of public events and scientific symposia, which aim to promote the benefits of EO for the region of the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus and spread information regarding Copernicus Services to public authorities, municipalities, professional groups, students and young researchers.

In this respect, CUT, through ERATOSTHENES Research Centre, aims to design and deliver several information & awareness events in Cyprus that aim to make public the benefits of the use of Copernicus Services and the opportunities that arise for the business and research sectors. The series of information and awareness events will include presentations and communication of specific activities (success stories/ user stories) from the use of Copernicus and will do so through the dissemination of videos, promotional and communication material. An important part of this activity is to provide local examples using Copernicus data and translate selected Copernicus flyers into Greek to distribute in the local community.

The objective is to highlight the various initiatives and research projects, operational services, etc., which are based on Copernicus data and stress the value of their use and the opportunities offered from Copernicus towards public services.

These events will have thematic presentations, examples of uptake actions, success stories and discussions among the participants. In specific, the promotion of Copernicus Services will be highlighted during the Researcher’s Night 2019, which is a National Event that aims to introduce Science and Technology to various audiences through thematic presentations and activities. Within this event, we will deliver a specialized presentation to a younger audience, comprised by students from public and private schools and young researchers. During October to November, 2019, three specialized workshops on the use of Copernicus Data for different themes (Land, Air, and Water) will be conducted. Also, we will organize a public informational session for interested Stakeholders from the Technical Chamber of Cyprus, the Civil Defence and other Governmental Departments in late 2019. Feedback from all the participants will be asked describing their needs and interests in Copernicus. The activity aims to raise the awareness and use of Copernicus data and services for municipalities, municipality boards and regional planning offices at local level.
