Demonstrate performance of Copernicus satellite data derived information for agriculture monitoring

The main objective of the action is to demonstrate how information derived from Copernicus Sentinel data are used to assess the status of agricultural crops and create reports that can further help the farmers to better manage their farms and get better productivity.

Agricultural test sites selected by user organizations will be monitored to provide an estimate of the production early in the year, and to identify the areas affected by natural hazards (such as the effects of drought, flooding, and wild animals). The estimates will be based on multi-spectral Images (Sentinel 2) and synthetic-aperture radar (Sentinel 1). In situ data obtained from field campaigns will be used to validate the results obtained by processing Copernicus satellite data (mainly vegetation indices).

Outputs and Results

  • informative materials with examples of benefits using Copernicus data and a methodological framework;
  • paper to be published in a selected, highly visible journal or as a story in media;
  • workshop involving main users (farmers);
  • in-situ observations and satellite data derived information database to be used in further R&D activities and demonstrations.
